As part of the light footwear revolution is the well-known adidas adiZero that debuted at the Farmers Insurance Open with the help of Tour players Dustin Johnson, Jason Day and defending champion Brandt Snedeker.  Other enthusiasts include Paula Creamer who says, “They are a really light, great change for me with everything I need and nothing I don’t.” Camilo Villegas says “They are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn and much lighter than other shoes. We met with Tom, one of the founders and designers of these innovative belts, at the PGA Show who showed us the new styles.  He explained how he set out to design then build the most beautiful, attractive, and comfortable belts. The 60th PGA Merchandise Show, held Jan. 23-26 celebrated its six-decade history while launching what many believed to be the most vibrant PGA Show Week in recent history to begin a strong 2013 for the golf industry.  The 2013 PGA Merchandise Show brought together more than 1,000 companies and brands introducing new and innovative golf equipment, apparel, accessories and services to more than 43,000 attending PGA Professionals, buyers and industry leaders from 75 countries.

“It’s gratifying to see such enthusiasm at the PGA Merchandise Show,” said Ted Bishop, presiding over his first PGA Merchandise Show as President of The PGA of America.  “The activity on the PGA Show floor and at surrounding events is a great start to the 2013 golf season.”

The PGA Merchandise Show traditionally attracts international industry leaders, top CEOs, influential retailers and scores of celebrity golfers from the realms of professional golf, golf instruction and entertainment.  In 2013, Davis Love III, the 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain and winner of the 1997 PGA Championship, joined PGA of America Officials in the grand opening and was among a long list of participating celebrities including keynote speakers Annika Sorenstam, Ian Poulter, Dottie Pepper, plus Jesper Parnevik, Luke Donald, Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis, Lexi Thompson, Graeme McDowell, Blair O’Neal, Zach Johnson, Anna Nordqvist, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Lee Trevino, Nancy Lopez, Meg Mallon, Stacy Lewis, Lee Westwood, Stan Utley, Butch Harmon, David Toms, Hank Haney, Michael Breed, Suzann Pettersen and more.

In addition to the busy marketplace among nearly 10 miles of aisles, PGA Show days were full of professional learning opportunities during industry presentations at the PGA Forum Stage, in the new PGA Education Conference and at daily presentations on the FIT to W.I.N. stage, sponsored by the Titleist Performance Institute.

The next U.S. PGA Golf Show, the 2013 PGA Expo is scheduled for the week of August 19th at The Venetian Hotel and Casino during Fashion Week on the famous Las Vegas Strip.  On the international scene, two other major golf shows will address the global business of golf.  The PGA Merchandise Show-China is scheduled for March 22-24 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. The PGA Merchandise Show-Asia, the sister show to the China Golf Show, is scheduled for Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in Shenzen, China.

2) Keegan Bradley almost didn’t have a chance to wear all four of his unique Tommy Hilfiger golf specially designed outfits as his flight was booked after day 2. He had an amazing comeback with numerous eagles, cancelled his flight, and strutted his stuff in classic Tommy colors of bright yellow, sheen olive green, red and royal blue to secure his spot in the 2012 Ryder Cup.

3) Rickie Fowler and Puma have had a great affect on popularizing golf and golf fashion among young people as evident by a strong following of kids wearing or carrying the signature Fowler orange flat brimmed Puma caps. Toned down colors from last year’s wild oranges and greens, the dark purples and light blues were impeccably coordinated and representing of the next generation with a new take on stripes and plaids.

4) The loveable lefty Phil Mickelson with four solid rounds has pieced his game back together wearing classic fashion pieces. All black power color of course one day, but also one matching his caddy with light hydrangea purple shirts. The crowd favorite hasn’t let his game or his style slip – he’s got a good grip especially now with the bear claw.

 
5) Ireland’s Padraig Harrington in his premium red thick striped FootJoy apparel, shot a superb final round with six birdies and finished of four under par with 67. He wears matching red shoelaces for Special Olympics he sends a message of respect, acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities to millions of golf fans around the world.

6) Chris Kirk in stunning Travis Mathew classic hipster attire, wearing white and gray the right way. Both colors are so muted they need to look clean and intertwined, otherwise they create a grubby appearance. Kirk had a tough start with six bogeys and was almost out of the playoffs. He was able to turn it around, birdying four of the last five holes to barely advance to the next round.

7) JJ Henry looked amazing wearing Martin apparel with a bold color for each of the four days. Henry looked classy as the sun glistened on each thread of the world’s finest Pima cotton. The shimmering cotton doesn’t hug the love handles quite like polyester, it has a forgiving flowing drape for an elegant look.

8) Wearing bright magentas, pinks, and salmons, can make people look younger and sexier as it did for Mark Wilson. For technical fabrics it doesn’t get much better than Sunice, a great feature is the shirts do not appear technical but look more like a normal cotton with a luster.

10) Hunter Mahan is our wild card making this cut but unfortunately feels no love from Love, just missing the Ryder Cup team this year. Luckily he wears enough armor he won’t be too hurt, as he still looked strong in his Under Armour apparel and sunglasses.
