Golf tees

The humble golf tee is not a subject to which most devote more than a passing interest, after all it’s just a peg of wood.

There are however a couple of interesting side notes such as an early tee design to receive a U.S. patent was in 1899 when a patent was issued to dentist Dr. George Grant, who was both keen on golf and one of the first blacks to be graduated from Harvard Dental school. And the Reddy Tee, invented in 1922 by another dentist (what’s with dentists and golf tees?) one William Lovell. As the name suggests the Reddy-Tee had a red painted top and was originally made from wood but later in plastic. When the great Walter Hagen was paid to endorse the colored pegs he found the red color bled through his otherwise immaculate white flannel trousers.

Today there are a number of golf tee producers but a Sunset Beach, N.C. company, Evolve Golf makes one with a difference. Their Epoch tee is made from recycled materials and according to the company it lasts longer, is more durable and more economical than the typical wooden tees.

There are even numbers cited by the company that the Epoch tee adds distance to tee shots because of its design. Check it out at evolvegolf.com.
