Once Again at the Turn

Posted in From The Editor by on November 8th, 2011

Welcome to our last issue of the 2011 golf season at New England Golf Monthly.  It has been a fantastic year for New England golf. We had a great finish at this year’s Deutsche Bank Championship. The Travelers and The CVS Classic both provided local golf fans with an up-close look at the pros once again. At Rhode Island Country Club, the 111th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship returned for the 5th time in August to the 100-year-old Donald Ross masterpiece.

If last week is any indication of the upcoming New England weather, we are in for a challenge ahead. It is the first time in history that most of us can remember a major Nor’easter hitting us in late October. Let’s all hope the melting is quick, and we can still get in a few rounds throughout the fall season. It is a great time to plan early for your next golf getaway. Did some one say Road Trip?

In this issue you will find our Annual Holiday Gift Guide and Travel issue. For the golfer in your life there are new ideas for great gifts to place under the tree, and maybe even one or two of them will keep them out of the trees. Once again, Katharine & Elle will show us “What’s Hot” in living, travel and fashion. Be sure to see our “18 Holes of Christmas “ in print and online for great deals this year.

My hat goes off to 2011 Team New England Player of the Year, Keegan Bradley, with the greatest performance in one season of golf by a New England PGA Tour player in over half a century: The Byron Nelson Championship, The PGA Championship and The PGA Grand Slam in Bermuda and over 4.4 Million dollars in winnings in one year, the most ever by a New England player. In the September issue of Golf Digest a full page layout of Keegan says it all. The heading reads: “New England Patriot” with the 25 year rookie wearing a Red Sox hat and a Celtic green tee shirt that says, “Wicked Smaaht”. It just doesn’t get any better than that! It’s my new favorite “Wall Of Fame” piece.

Happy Holiday To All!
