On Monday October 3rd I played in the Annual Jimmy Fund Golf Classic, which was held at The International Golf Club in Bolton, Ma. Each year the Jimmy Fund Golf program holds this tournament to thank all the people that in the last year that were part of this great cause to finda cure for cancer. Since 1983 The Jimmy Fund Golf Program has run golf tournaments throughout New England. This year the golf program has raised almost 6.5 Million dollars and held 150 golf tournaments. That’s right 150 golf tournaments! Since 1983 the Jimmy Fund Golf Program has raised more than 85 million dollars used for research and treatment of cancer at Danna Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Ma. The International Golf Club in Bolton, Ma one of New England’s finest golf clubs and resorts serves as the host facility each year for the event. It is also one of the Jimmy Fund Golf Presenting Sponsors and home each year to the “Tame The Tigers” golf tournament held each year by Jimmy Fund Classic Cohost John Dennis from WEEI Radio.
The International who specializes in corporate hospitality and golf with 2 championship 18 hole courses is now also home to the TaylorMade Performance Lab one of only 7 U.S. Locations. It is one of the most comprehensive golf fitting systems in the world today. None of this would be at all possible without the sponsors, countless volunteers and tournament directors that work all year to make these events successful. If you do the simple math and calculate 144 players in a full tournament field and over 150 tournaments every year for nearly 30 years then it will not be long before the Jimmy Fund Golf Program will crest 1 million New Englanders who have given back and helped with this great cause. That my friends is the power of golf and a lot of very wonderful people making a difference.
