Last year we were graciously treated to the vistas of Pebble Beach twice, between the AT&T and of course the U.S. Open, and I for one can never get used to just how beautiful the place is. This week’s tournament is full of the usual Pr-Am quirks, with “celebrities” and multiple courses. Returning champ Dustin Johnson tries to make it three wins in a row at this tournament, something that has never been done before.
Last week was rough for me. For a short period of time I had guys looking pretty good (Phil, Bill Haas), but in the end they all tanked. I will say this though… Yahoo! did an awful job with the change deadlines due to the weather delays. I don’t think I was even allowed to make changes for my 3rd round starters and really was hampered by that a bit. Anyways, I’ll quit my griping.
I’m really going out on a limb this week and starting Dustin Johnson (please sense my sarcasm). With two wins in a row here and a very strong showing at the US Open last year, he’s the new king of Pebble. I also love the momentum Nick Watney brings in to this week and I’ll have him on reserve.
With all three of the courses measuring less than 7,000 yards, it plays in to the short hitters too. I like Tim Clark this week because of that as well as the fact that he has some great history here. I’ll also give the nod to the “Lego” belt buckle wearing D.A. Points who’s had two very solid weeks in a row.
For my “C” starter I’m starting last years co-runner up JB Holmes. With a pair of weekend 67′s last weekend he snuck in there with a T5 and with his length he could capitalize on the shorter courses. I’m also going with David Duval on the bench. Double-D has shown some signs of life this year, and had a great year here last year with a T2 (with Holmes).
Starting Foursome: Dustin Johnson, Tim Clark, D.A. Points, JB Holmes
