The FedEx Cup Playoffs get underway this week with The Barclays featuring the top 125 players in the point rankings. There’s another new venue for the tournament this year in Plainfield Country Club, a Donald Ross designed par 71 track that is on the shorter side with it measuring just under 7,000 yards. Defending champion Matt Kuchar has been a bit up and down as of late, with two MCs in his last four starts. Can he defend his title at a new course this year?

Despite having the tournament winner (Webb Simpson) on my squad last week, I still lost ground in my leagues, even after picking up a respectable 190 points last week! This is when making your picks gets a lot tougher each week. The field is featuring the top 125 players on TOUR this year and it’s a field that is chock full of talent and players who are hot at the moment.
To start the A group I need to give the nod to Luke Donald. He’s shown no signs of slowing down with yet another pair of top 10s in his last two tournaments (WGC – T2, PGA Championship – T8). Backing him up will be Jim Furyk who’s season is starting to turn around at the right time. He played extremely well last week at the Wyndham where he carded all four rounds in the 60′s.
If I had any starts left for him, “Mr. September” Steve Stricker would be getting a start, instead I’ll be keeping my starting B group in tact from last week. Neither Webb Simpson nor David Toms gave me any reason to think that another two players deserve the starting nod over them. Simpson obviously won his first PGA TOUR event last week and is still ranked 1st in the “all around” statistic on TOUR. Toms is showing us that age is just a number and impressed with a T4 at the PGA and followed that up with a T19 last week in Greensboro, capping his tournament off with a Sunday 65.
Within the C group there are a lot of tough choices. Players like Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia, Jason Day, Gary Woodland, and Charles Howell III could all do extremely well at Plainfield. Unfortunately, you can only pick two. I’m going with Adam Scott to start and CHIII backing him up. With his T4 last week, Howell now has four top 5s in his last seven starts.

On the Bench: Jim Furyk, Rickie Fowler, Bill Haas, Charles Howell III
