Fantasy Golf Picks for the Bob Hope Classic

Posted in Palopoli's Picks - Fantasy Golf by on January 19th, 2011

The Tour makes its way to back to the mainland this week after opening the season with two consecutive weeks in Hawaii. Now we’ll start to see more and more of the marquee names in the field each week. Last week’s rookie starters didn’t fair so well, but many are in the field again this week looking to rebound at the Bob Hope Classic, while teeing it up with some celebrities.

Current Points: 325
Last Week: 154
Current Percentile: 87th
Winners picked so far: 0
Top 10s picked so far: 5

I actually forgot that this was a 5-day tournament with a Wednesday start, so I apologize for getting these out there last minute! I had a tough week last week as four of my picks didn’t even make the cut and I was only able to round up one top 10 with Steve Stricker from the remaining four players.

This week I’m starting Matt Kuchar for the first time. I’ve said that I wanted to reserve a lot of my starts for him because I plan on utilizing him a lot this season. But missing out on two great starts and two top 10s already has me feeling he needs to start this week. I also like the hot hand of Steve Marino as my A group backup. He’s ready to win on the PGA Tour and I think it will come soon.

Billy Haas is the returning champion to the Hope and he’s definitely coming in to his own as a player now with two victories last year. I think the 29 year old is looking to begin to position himself among the upper echelon of players on Tour.

Bubba Watson has the length to chew these courses up and with a T2 last year, I like his chances again. Starting Ryan Moore as my C starter may be a bit of a reach this week, as this is the first time he’s teeing it up this season and with a brand new equipment sponsor, it’s anybody’s guess where his game is right now. But strong consistent play from last season has me thinking he’ll pick up where he left off.

My Thursday starting squad includes: Matt Kuchar, Bill Haas, Bubba Watson, Ryan Moore
Riding the pine at least until Friday is: Steve Marino, Pat Perez, Alex Prugh, Roland Thatcher
