Fantasy Golf Picks for the Greenbrier Classic

The FedEx Cup Playoffs are approaching fast and guys need to rack up some points. For some on the bubble this week’s Greenbrier Classic is a great opportunity to do that. A course that can definitely be scored on, it saw Stuart Appleby’s 59 last year and he went on to win with -22. The tournament also saw seven other players at -15 or better.

Phil Mickelson is playing for the first time since his back 9 collapse at the British. Phil didn’t play in the inaugural event here last year, but I’m banking on him continuing his good play and looking for some redemption. Plus there aren’t a lot of other solid picks for the A list this week.

For the B group I like Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III to start. He’s on a run of great finishes over the past few weeks, which includes a T9 at the British and T11 at the US Open. Jeff Overton also gets the nod. Not having a great year so far but he was the tough luck runner-up to Appleby last year at this event. He’s coming off a T3 at the AT&T as well, and also posted some very low rounds at the Greenbrier last year.

Sergio Garcia is a no-brainer for me to star the C group. He continues to play well this season and has top 10s in both the US Open and the British. His ball striking is off the charts and he has the potential to go really low this week. Charles Howell III is a solid backup who’s playing incredibly consistent this year and also had a top 10 finish here last year.

Starting Foursome: Phil Mickelson, Davis Love III, Jeff Overton, Sergio Garcia
On the Bench: Brian Gay, Spencer Levin, Brendon de Jong, Charles Howell III
