The TOUR heads to Hilton Head this week and the boys will tee it up at Harbour Town, home of one of the most recognizable 18th holes on TOUR, featuring the trademark red and white striped lighthouse looming in the distance. Formerly the Verizon Heritage Open, the revolving door of sponsors for the event continues without a title sponsor this year. Typically held the week after the Masters, this year the tournament got a much better draw on the schedule with another week in between the two.
Harbour Town is known as a ball strikers course. There may not be a better ball striker in the field than Luke Donald, and with a T3 in 2010 and a T2 in 2009, I think it’s fair to say he plays the course well. He’s my starter and returning champ Jim Furyk will be my backup. The Heritage is a tournament that seems to have a few repeat winners and you’ll see a few in my selections here.
Rickie Fowler is still looking for that breakout win. He missed the cut here in his pro debut a couple years ago, but posted a solid top 10 here last year with a final round 67. After taking two weeks off due to becoming a new dad, Webb Simpson is coming in fresh and rested. He had a solid finish here last year with a T14.
For my C list starters I like a couple of Aussies who have been making some noise this year. 2006 Heritage champ Aaron Baddeley has found his game this year, with a win at Riviera and three other top 10s. Backing him up is Jason Day who won a lot of fans for his stellar showing at the Masters (T2).
