The Tour waves goodbye to the West Coast, and moves on to the Florida Swing at this week’s Honda Classic at PGA National. A renovation a couple of years ago has helped strengthen the course and as well as the fielf. The field this week is strong, with the likes of Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Rickie Fowler, and Graeme McDowell, to just name a few. No Tiger or Phil, but at least you have the World’s number 2, 3, and 4 right?
The field is stacked this week, but in some cases you need to be weary of guys who play A LOT of golf last week. I’d love to grab Luke Donald or Matt Kuchar this week, but I’m just thinking that the Match Play took a lot out of them physically and mentally… but what the heck do I know? So instead I’m going with G-Mac as my A-list starter and I don’t think you can go wrong there. Having the world’s new #2 on your bench with Lee Westwood isn’t a bad guy to have come in off the bench.
Vijay Singh’s game has started to see a great resurgence as he starts to think about completely dominating the Champions Tour in a couple years. With a 2nd and 3rd in his last 3 starts, and a great history at the Honda, he’s a strong option. I like the 2009 Honda champ, Y.E. Yang as my other B list starter, with last week’s Mayakoba runner-up Spencer Levin on the pine. Levin leads the Tour in birdies so far this year and has chaulked up three straight six-figure paydays.
Last year’s Honda runner-up Anthony Kim is a great C list option, and I’ll resist the temptation to go with Rory McIlroy here and bank on the continued stellar 2011 performance of Jimmy Walker who has three top 10s so far this year.
