Last year Paul Goydos carded the fourth 59 in the history of the TOUR. Not to be outdone, Steve Stricker went on to post rounds of 60-62 en route to a successful title defense at the TPC Deere Run. Needless to say the course can be scored on. The course is ranked as the second easiest par 71 layout on TOUR, so expect to see players go low again. Guys who can get the flat stick rolling could be a major factor this week.
I notched another win last week with taking Nick Watney, and even scored some bonus points for having runner-up KJ Choi on the bench. Unfortunately, I missed both of those guys low rounds with swapping them out for one another. This week the field is again pretty light, with a few headliners to choose from. The A group is especially light, but I like Jonathan Byrd to start. He’s having a solid season thus far. He’s also a previous winner of this event (2007) and has never missed a cut here.
Steve Stricker is a lock to start in the B group. The two-time defending champ has completely dominated the TPC Deere run the past two years, which included rounds of 60 and 62 last year. I only have two starts left on the season with Stricker as he was an early season favorite of mine. So after this start I’ll have only one remaining, which is definitely concerning to me as we enter the Playoffs soon. David Toms is also a solid choice start in the B group. He ranks 2nd on TOUR in GIR and like Stricker, if he gets the putter rolling he’ll be dangerous.
Jason Day has been making a name for himself all year. Posting runner-up finishes in the two Majors played so far, along with a handful of other strong finishes. He’s posted five top 10s in his last six starts and has the ability to go really low at TPC Deere Run.
Starting Foursome: Jonathan Byrd, Steve Stricker, David Toms, Jason Day
Bench Players: Louis Oosthuizen, Bryce Molder , Pat Perez, Zach Johnson
