think we’re all suffering from another week after major hangover but just as life does, the TOUR moves on this week. Those who played the British Open had an awfully long flight to get to the RBC Canadian Open, which has a new home this year in Shaughnessy G&CC in Vancouver after being played in Toronto last year. There are a lot of players in the field this week that tee’d it up at the British.
Carl Petterson is the returning champ, and he flirted with a 59 here last year but “settled” for a 60, and ended up winning by a stroke over Dean Wilson.
Very slim pickings for the A group this week at the RBC Canadian Open. However a couple of big names do jump right out at you. Matt Kuchar missed the cut at the British last week, but he still owns eight top 10’s in 16 starts on the season. I like him to start, but will keep World #1 Luke Donald on the bench. Donald also had a surprising MC last week, so I’m hoping he’s rested. He also finished 3rd here a year ago.
Charl Schwartzel continues to impress, and had his name near the top of the British for a bit before sliding a bit on the weekend, still finishing T16 though. He’s a first timer at this event, but he’s also 10 for 10 in cuts made on the season. He’ll get the start along with Rickie Fowler, who impressed a lot of people last week at Royal St. George’s. Fowler seems to be trending upward and finished with a share of 5th place last week, but struggled in his final round.
For the C group Ryan Moore gets the nod. This could almost be considered a home game for him, as this is about as close as it gets for the Washington native. He notched a runner-up finish here in 2005, and is coming off of a couple great starts at the Travelers and British where he played well. Anthony Kim will be on the bench. Kim had a great showing at the British and I’m hoping he comes to the RBC (one of his major sponsors as well) with a lot of momentum.
Starting Foursome: Matt Kuchar, Charl Schwartzel, Rickie Fowler, Ryan Moore
On the Bench: Luke Donald, Carl Petterson, Bo Van Pelt, Anthony Kim
