Fantasy Golf Picks for the WGC Cadillac Championship

Posted in Palopoli's Picks - Fantasy Golf by on March 10th, 2011

We have another week where the PGA Tour has dual tournaments happening, but thankfully this week Yahoo lets us go with the WGC talent stacked event, rather than the Puerto Rico Open. It does make selections a bit tougher with so many strong players in the field though. It will be fun to watch how these guys try and tackle the Blue Monster of Doral, after many of them struggled in the wind filled Honda last week and lost many balls at the Bear Trap.

After picking the runner-up in the last two events I’m starting to gain some ground a bit. With all the talent in this week’s event there’s a lot of guys to choose from. Do you go with the new World #1? Yup, you do. Especially seeing as he’s in the C category list, and finished T3 here last year. Lock him up and don’t think twice.

I’m going to go with Graeme McDowell for two weeks in a row and start him this week. He struggled in the wind last week as most players did, but a stellar Sunday 64 continues to show us how much game this guy really has. Matt Kuchar, who again is a Top 10 machine this year, is a solid back up. Just watch your starts with him and don’t burn through them too soon. It’s a long season! He also finished T3 at Doral last year.

For my B list starters you have to give the nod to Charl Schwartzel, who was the runner-up to buddy and fellow South African Ernie Els last year. This is only his 3rd start on American soil this year, but he’s performed well, and continues to look strong overseas. Bill Haas gets the other slot. With three top 10s this year, and a T6 here last year, his game sets up well for Doral if he can keep it in the short stuff.

Starting Foursome: Graeme McDowell, Bill Haas, Charl Schwartzel, Martin Kaymer
Bench Players: Matt Kuchar, Steve Stricker, Ben Crane, Francesco Molinari

My Year-to-Date Stats are:

Current Points: 1430
Points Last Week: 144
Current Percentile: 94th
Winners picked so far: 1
Top 10s picked so far: 17
