Remembering Byron

By: Les Miller on 08/03/09 02:04 PM   |   DISCUSS

It's hard to believe it's been almost 3 years since the death of my friend Byron Nelson, golf's greatest gentleman and one of the most beloved people in sports, at the age of 94. Known for his graceful swing and gentle manner, Byron had the greatest year in the history of professional sports in 1945 when he won 18 tournaments. During a two year period, 1944-1945 he captured 31 of 54 tournaments, and then suddenly, at age 34, he retired after the 1946 season to become a Texas rancher.    —   » Read More: Remembering Byron

Personalize Your Plan

By: Derek Hooper on 07/07/09 10:18 AM   |   DISCUSS

Every golfer I have ever met has enjoyed their golf the most when they have played well. Thus they have all wanted to play well every time they tee up the ball. But very few have truly understood what is required to play well consistently and thus keep improving. To them it is a lottery how they will play from day to day. What is required is your own Personal Performance Plan.    —   » Read More: Personalize Your Plan

Find Your Happy Place

By: Bill Bondaruk on 05/29/09 05:18 PM   |   DISCUSS

Finding your happy place I got to experience my son's first birdie a few years back. He was just four years old. It happened on PGA family golf day, a warm afternoon on a 440 yard (from the forward tees) downhill par five 14th hole at Catta Verdera C.C. . . . Luka aims for cart paths for some extra length and on this particular tee shot, he just caught one perfect and was rewarded with an extra 70 yards of roll.    —   » Read More: Find Your Happy Place

The Basic Golf Swing

By: John A.Theo, Sr. on 04/20/09 12:37 PM   |   DISCUSS

In as many times as you've heard it, like in most sports, knowing your basics in golf is still the best way, if you want to play it right. First of all, the V-Grip (Vardon) is the most important basic of all of the correct grips. It sets up everything in your swing, and if you don't have the right grip, you'll fight with your golf swing most of your life.     —   » Read More: The Basic Golf Swing

What Happens After 50!

By: John A.Theo, Sr. on 04/20/09 12:35 PM   |   DISCUSS

We assume that nothing is suppose to happen at 50, except for the fact that we start to go downhill and we cannot be as good as we once were. I am here to tell you that is wrong, so very wrong. As long as we still have the tools to play and a positive mental attitude, that's all we need. We might lose a few yards off the tee, but that's not important. We just have to work at our positive mental attitude. The clubs do not know how old you are.    —   » Read More: What Happens After 50!

Explain, Demonstrate, Participate, and Evaluate

By: John A.Theo, Sr. on 04/20/09 12:34 PM   |   DISCUSS

Being a PGA Teaching Professional for over forty years has given me great perspective in reading into how to correct a student's swing, as well as their thought process. However, what's even more important is conveying a very clear message to the student, so that you can get them to act on your own thoughts.    —   » Read More: Explain, Demonstrate, Participate, and Evaluate

The Key to Being A Successful Long Iron Player

By: John A.Theo, Sr. on 04/20/09 12:32 PM   |   DISCUSS

Being able to hit long irons is one of the most rewarding and gratifying feelings imaginable in the game of golf. However, the long irons are the most feared clubs to hit for the average golfer, and it really shouldn't be. When done correctly, striking the ball is so effortless; it is as if you are not hitting the ball at all.    —   » Read More: The Key to Being A Successful Long Iron Player

Improve Your Golf Game This Winter

By: Derek Hooper on 01/28/09 08:17 AM   |   DISCUSS

The weather outside may be cold and there is possibly even snow on the ground where you are reading this, but that doesn't mean you have to stop working on and improving your golf game. There are many opportunities for you to focus on areas of your game that need improvement, during the winter months. It can be challenging to improve your game without knowing exactly what it is that needs changing and then how to most efficiently execute that change.    —   » Read More: Improve Your Golf Game This Winter

BOUNCE OUT OF BUNKERS

By: Brad Redding on 01/20/09 06:39 AM   |   DISCUSS

The bounce on the sand wedge is the flange on the sole that extends below the leading edge. It holds the key to you becoming a consistent bunker player. Here's how to bounce your way onto the green. TILT THE GRIP Play the ball up in your stance even with your left heel. Set up with the grip of the club pointed behind your belt buckle. You'll know if you've got the correct position if the club shaft is roughly parallel to your left leg. This lays the face back and exposes the bounce to the s   —   » Read More: BOUNCE OUT OF BUNKERS
