Things I Wish Were Like They Use To Be

Weather

The weather is cooler, weter and windier in both spring and fall over the last 5 years. I miss fall ,Indian summers, and springs that have sunny days in the high 60s. Now in New England we seem to go right from winter into summer in late June, and summer only last two months at best. I would like once again to have four distinct seasons in New England.

While we are on weather, weather forecasters never use to predict weather more than two or three days ahead. Now weather is forecasted as much as a week ahead and is rarely correct that far in advance. Lets go back to just a few short weather forecasts each day telling what to look out for in the next few days.

Sports

Sports in almost all forms in our country are on the verge of being completely destroyed. The lack of education and integrity has brought sports in the United States to an all time low. We need to do something now to fix the problem before it is beyond repair. Here are just a few suggestions.

A) Make it mandatory all professional athletes are educated first before they are allowed on the world stage. The right to play professional sports should be earned by hard work and dedication not by agents and entitlement.

B) Outlaw celebrations of any kind, visible tattooing, gang affiliations, steroids, and most of all enforce rules in all sports.

C) In baseball speed up the game and computerize the strike zone, keep the batters in the batters box and pitchers pitching. It will make for a faster and better game for the fans and players alike.

D) In basketball enforce the three-second rule and traveling and do away with the three point shot and contact with the rim in any way (No Dunking). Encourage the passing game and great defense. Bring back intelligence to the game. Make it mandatory for all college athletes to have a real major and graduate before entering the draft.

E) In hockey stop the fighting and please do something to make it more interesting. This great sport is wilting for lack of fan interest. Does the players union and owners even see the writing on the wall?

F) In football stop all on field antics and speed up the game. Any celebration of any kind should result in removal of points off the score of the violating team. It will only happen once if a Bill P. or Bill B coaches you.

And lets make Monday night and Sunday Night Football starting times at a more reasonable time for 80% of the viewing audience in this country that do not live in California.

We have already completely screwed up most sports and for that matter life for our present generation by never holding anyone responsible for almost anything. It would make sense to fix now this problem for our future generations ahead by bringing back a few simple steadfast rules. Bring back education, Integrity, responsibility, accountability and most of all rules. Because without rules there is no Game!!
