Tiger Woods: No slack

In this morning’s Global Golf Post, editor Brian Hewitt makes comments regarding Tiger Woods, his self-centered behavior and how in part sports fans were “enablers” for Woods.

Hewitt closes with, “Who know what Tiger Woods sees these days when he looks in his mirror? I’m more curious right now to know if the enablers among us realize who’s staring back at them when they look in theirs.”

This of course is both a good point and question. Already there are those of the “boys will be boys” school or the snicker-giggle-nudge-nudge fraternity lining up to forgive and forget because “golf needs Tiger.” In addition to the consequences to his family this conveniently ignores those who placed Woods in the “Second Coming” category and were deeply hurt by his actions right through regular fans who just liked to see him play. Plus let’s not forget the millions of dollars tournament sponsors and charities not to mention the rest of the industry has lost due to Woods’ actions.

Concerning Hewitt’s main point though, passing even part of the responsibility for this mess from Woods to sports fans or anyone else is cuts Woods slack he does not deserve.
