Turning Stone Turns Heads

By: Alice and Danny Scott on 08/10/10 10:19 AM

The “secondary” PGA event, played opposite the big Bridgestone tourney, turned out to be a first class venue at Turning Stone. Players and fans raved about the condition and beauty of the course. It was a close competition as Cejka led into the final round but finished in a 5 way tie for 3rd place. Scottsdale’s Billy Mayfair faired very well, in the same 3rd place. It was Bill Lunde who won his first tour trophy and $720,000 cash. Not bad pay for second rate play.

The Oneida Indian Nation proudly showed off their history and heritage in the entrance exhibit booth, highlighting the partnership with non-native Americans. In lieu of any Woods drama, CEO Ray Halbritter provided controversy by giving himself an exemption to play with the big boys. He admittedly pulled rank, the media squawked, he balked and yanked himself, graciously giving the spot to the next PGA pro.  A day after the tournament ended, the local paper’s headlines cited “Indian Affairs - Oneida’s Land Claim Denied”. Residents of Oneida and Madison counties can rest easy in their homes now while the Turning Stone Casino Resort, will continue to drive cash to the nation with their luxurious accommodation, world class spa, restaurants, comedy club, concerts and the LAVA Lounge dance club. The PGA players will return, boosting the area economics for all. Turning Stone is lobbying for a better slot on the PGA Tour and should get consideration due to the great response from players attending this stunning event.
