Isn’t it special when deserving people are honored? So it was with the celebration of Ron Mac Pherson, CEO of Antigua at his induction to the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame. He has become an icon not just in the valley of the sun, but in the world of golf merchandising. The first personal encounter with Ron was as members of the Turquoise Circle, an organization which supported the Banner Health sponsorship and charitable fund raising for the LPGA event in Phoenix. Later we were on the board of the Heather Farr tournament. He would bring a rack of fresh designs to choose for tee prizes and volunteer shirts and hats, demonstrating them like a rep to a high end buyer.
When we started our head cover business, Ron lent an ear and advice. He gifted long sleeve shirts and warm jackets with USA logos when we represented our nation in the International Pairs competition in St. Andrews. So when we plunked down cash for our Couple of Travelers logoed apparel, it was in his facility. Our closet like many of yours is full of shirts from events around the country, sewn with the Antigua tag. Ron’s work ethics stand out among the best. His sense of humor shines too as he mentioned his wife’s announcement to friends at a dinner that he had been “indicted”. He quickly corrected with “inducted”. So it was with great pride, we watched him accept his entry to the Hall of Fame.
