Couple Of Travelers

By: Alice & Danny Scott on 05/03/10 07:35 AM   |   DISCUSS

Deep in the throbbing heart of Texas, the hill country hospitality of San Antonio draws in families, couples, singles and conventioneers alike. Always renovating and evolving, it is #7 on Forbes’ list of top golf cities. The JW Marriott is the newest pride of San Antonio, appearing from the TPC Parkway as a modern day castle atop the high hill. All around, the palatial theme mixes ostrich skin barstools, blown glass, Remington motif and nine -pillow beds.   —   » Read More: Couple Of Travelers

Byron Kalies » Golf in Wales

By: Byron Kalies on 04/09/10 07:49 AM   |   DISCUSS

Golf in Wales will not begin and end with the 2010 Ryder Cup. There are other courses in Wales apart from Celtic Manor. There are also golfers in Wales not called Ian Woosnam. For a country the size of 8,000 square miles (smaller than all American states apart from Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island), and a population of just under 3 million, there are 176 golf courses. This is perfectly adequate for our needs - after all, we’re not Scotland are we?   —   » Read More: Byron Kalies » Golf in Wales

Byron Kalies » The story of ‘Royal’ Porthcawl

By: Byron Kalies on 04/09/10 07:41 AM   |   DISCUSS

Porthcawl is situated 30 miles west of Cardiff and 22 miles east of Swansea. It is set on the South Wales coast overlooking the Bristol Channel and, with a number of beaches around the town, has evolved into a seaside town since the Victorian era and remains one of Wales’ most enduring holiday resorts.   —   » Read More: Byron Kalies » The story of ‘Royal’ Porthcawl

A Couple Of Travelers

“Let’s go to the Desert!” is the cry of California residents in metro areas who want to escape the rat race. It is also a prime retirement and vacation destination for golfers around the globe.  “The Desert”, in this case, refers to the Palm Springs area. However, when you approach Rancho Las Palmas Resort, on Bob Hope Drive, in Rancho Mirage, it appears not the least bit parched. Loaded with colorful, fragrant blooms and 27 bright green holes, it has a golfer friendly layout amidst 1500 palms, but don’t be fooled, as hole number 3, a 645 yard par 5 can be a dog that bites. Wear your shorts and short sleeves, while admiring the majestic snow capped mountain views from every fairway (well, maybe not in the summer). After golf, year round, Splashtopia is fun for kids, young and old, with a lazy river for tubing and water slides for a rush. The tranquility pool provides a full service adult option and a floral fantasy that will melt all stress away.      —   » Read More: A Couple Of Travelers

OCEAN CITY'S SWEET GOLF RETREAT

By: Pam Borges on 03/23/10 09:17 PM   |   DISCUSS

Ocean City has been Maryland’s best-loved summer beach retreat since the turn of the 20th century.  Over the years, this 10-mile stretch of skinny barrier island, with Assawomen Bay on one side and the Atlantic on the other, has evolved into one of the hottest destinations on the East Coast.  Mild year-round temperatures, a large selection of award-winning, distinctive courses… designed by notable guys such as Nicklaus, Furyk, Player, Trent Jones, and Dye, and a huge choice of accommodations set the stage for an unforgettable golf-getaway.  The upscale improvements added to the area haven’t diminished Ocean City’s nostalgic appeal.  With its 1920s three-mile, old-school wooden boardwalk, rides, steamed crabs and retro treats, Ocean City offers a fun-filled trip down memory lane.   —   » Read More: OCEAN CITY'S SWEET GOLF RETREAT

Skins Game

For a grand resort experience where the golf course and spa are within a wedge shot from the front entrance try Cranwell Resort, Spa and Golf Club. Sitting atop a crest in the Berkshire Mountains in western Massachusetts, the imposing brick mansion is an elegant, refined grand dame from the gilded age (circa 1884). Such an imposing hotel might hint to be a tad pretentious. It isn't. From the reservations clerk to the wait staff in the Wyndhurst and Music Room restaurants, they could not be more friendly or helpful. Gotta love that.   —   » Read More: Skins Game

SPECTACULAR HIGH & LOW DESERT GOLF

By: Pam Borges on 01/20/10 03:46 PM   |   DISCUSS

I never thought I’d be fond of desert golf. Some people say that desert golf is boring…too flat, too many arroyos, too many cacti. I may have agreed until my recent golf trips to Northern New Mexico and Scottsdale where I found courses that were far from boring.   —   » Read More: SPECTACULAR HIGH & LOW DESERT GOLF

Can't golf? Go spa!

By: Alice and Danny Scott on 01/08/10 12:17 PM   |   DISCUSS

Things happen in life and even the best of golfers are temporarily sidelined. A routine colonoscopy turned into an emergency repair nightmare that put golf on hold for 6 weeks. Rather than be jealous of the rounds I was missing during the Scottsdale media Classic, I decided to check out the spas. Here are a few recommended choices in Scottsdale if you need to take your mind of golf and heal.   —   » Read More: Can't golf? Go spa!
