NORTON, MA — The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund is proud to announce that Arnold Palmer will serve as the Honorary Chair as itstarts planning a celebration of the Centennial of Francis Ouimet’s historic 1913 US Open victory. “We are thrilled that Mr. Palmer has accepted our invitation to be Honorary Chair. He, like Mr. Ouimet, is considered one of the great ambassadors of the game and is tremendously respected throughout the world of golf,” said Richard M. Reilly, Ouimet Fund President. He went on to explain that Mr. Palmer was the first Ouimet Award honoree at our banquet in 1997, helping launch The Fund to a tremendous new level. He has also been Honorary Chair of the Ouimet Memorial Tournament since 2000. Through his deep relationship with Ouimet Trustee Dick Connolly, Mr. Palmer has always been a great friend of The Fund. Mr. Reilly also stated that The Ouimet Fund will be making more announcements in the coming months about its Centennial plans. The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund was founded in 1949 and since that time it has awarded over $22.0 Million in tuition assistance to over 4,700 students. Ouimet Scholars work at least two years as caddies or in pro shop and course superintendent operations. In 2010-2011, The Fund awarded $1.46 Million in scholarships to 300 scholars.
