Bradley, Stallings headline New England contingent at The Barclays

Keegan Bradley may be the man of the moment (just ask Phil Mickelson or Jim Furyk), but he won’t be the only New Englander teeing it up at Thursday at The Barclays. Fellow rookie, first-time tour winner, and Worcester, Mass., native, Scott Stallings, looked forward to making his FedEx Cup debut in the first of four playoff events that makes a stop in Boston next week.

“[The FedEx Cup] is the tour’s Super Bowl,” Stallings, who ranked 31st in FEC points after winning the Greenbrier Classic in July, told reporters on a conference call last week, “and something that everyone has on their calendar and everyone would love the opportunity to win.”

Brookline’s James Driscoll, 120th on the FedEx Cup leaderboard, was also in the field. The 33-year-old Driscoll’s best finish on tour in 2011 was fifth place at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn., in June.

He may not be a Boston boy, but Nick Watney has a strong rooting section back in The Hub. The cousin of everybody’s favorite NESN Red Sox reporter, Heidi Watney, Nick joins Bradley, 2009 Deutsche Bank champ Steve Stricker, 2010 Travelers Championship winner Bubba Watson, and Mark Wilson in the two-time winner’s circle this year. Watney, with more than $4 million in earnings this year, trails only Donald on the 2011 money list.

Hartford University’s Jerry Kelly and J.J. Henry, from Fairfield, Conn., round out the New England contingent at The Barclays.
