Cheyenne Woods does Uncle Tiger Woods proud with ACC golf title

Tiger Woods may be in search of his first win since 2009, but his niece Cheyenne Woods knows a thing or two about hoisting trophies. The Wake Forest University junior won the ACC individual title on Sunday, and Woods’ famous uncle could not be more delighted for her.

“My niece, Cheyenne, just won the ACC golf title by 7 shots!” Tiger tweeted Sunday. “That’s awesome, I’m so proud of her.”

The 20-year-old Cheyenne, whose father is Tiger’s half-brother Earl Woods Jr., fired a 3-under 68 Sunday to close the three-day event with a 5-under 208. It was Wake Forest’s third consecutive year with an individual-title victor.

“Today, I really felt confident all day and knew I could hit the shots that I wanted to,” Woods told ACC.com. “That was important on this course because the greens are so slick that you have to land the ball in the right spots.”

Wake Forest student and New England native Natalie Sheary (West Hartford, Conn.) captured the individual title in 2009, while teammate Michelle Shin (Florida) took home the hardware last year.

Massachusetts’ Brittany Altomare (Shrewsbury and University of Virginia) tied for seventh place in the individual-scoring honors. Boston College senior Kelsey Rockey closed with a T30 in the same category.

While Wake Forest came in fourth at the ACC Women’s Golf Championship, Cheyenne Woods was a member of the winning Bryan National Collegiate event in March. With two trophies in two months, wonder if Tiger’s niece will reach out to Uncle Eldrick with some tips on making it to the winner’s circle.
