November 9 — With forecasters calling for sunshine and temps in the high 50s, low 60s this weekend and courses throughout the six-state region offering great deals, it’s clear that intrepid New England golfers are not quite ready to hang up their carry bags.
Here’s a peek at some of the discounted greens fees available at golf courses near you:
- Newport National Golf Club (Middletown, R.I.) — Play this award-winning links course for $65 (including cart) on Friday and Saturday ($55 to walk). Weekday rates drop to $55, including cart, and $45 to walk. Book tee times online or call the pro shop at 401-848-9690.
- The Overlook Golf Club (Hollis, N.H.) — Hearty New Hampshire golfers scoff at frost delays, and so does The Overlook. Starting November 14 and continuing every Sunday for the rest of the season, golfers will tee off in a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start to avoid waiting around for the track to thaw out. The course also offers special end-of-season rates that start at $29 (walking) on weekdays and include $51 (including cart) for 18 holes, $36 to walk on weekends.
- Willow Brook Golf Course (South Windsor, Conn.) — On Friday, November 19, bring a frozen turkey to the course and receive a free round of golf on 18-hole, par-60 layout. The course will donate all food items to the South Windsor Food Pantry. In addition, November greens fees for 18 holes begin at $24 (including cart).
- Ballymeade CC (North Falmouth, Mass.) — The golf season lasts longer on Cape Cod and Ballymeade wants you to enjoy Cape golf for $25 (including cart) on weekdays. Register to receive e-mails and your discount coupon, valid through December 2. Book tee times online or call 508-540-4005.
- Cape Cod CC (North Falmouth, Mass.) — Sign up for CCCC’s Annual Beef Stew Tournament for $55 ($35 for season-pass holders) and you’ll receive a round of golf, cart, prizes, and, of course, beef stew. The November 14 shotgun tourney tees off at 10 a.m. and you have until November 11 to register yourself or your foursome at 508-563-9842.

Winter reading. If it’s just too raw and damp out there for you, Cape Cod CC has some winter reading for you. Click here to fill out a survey and receive a free copy of “Desperately Seeking Members” by Harvey S. McLintock. The narrative follows private club manager McLintock as he deals with quickly plummeting membership and other chaos that should be familiar to many in the golf business.
Holiday gift-giving. Have a favorite number, or know you can only play golf balls with that certain digit? PGA champ Martin Kaymer plays #59 because that’s his lowest round in a tournament. Buy two dozen TaylorMade Penta golf balls at Crumpin-Fox Club (Bernardston, Mass.) and you may add your number for free (a $2 value). Buy a dozen and you may otherwise personalize your dimpled orbs ($3 value). Call head pro Mike Zaranek at 800-943-1901.
