Fran Quinn out of action due to stress fracture of the spine

In case you have been curious as to what he has been up to, Fran Quinn has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his spinal, and will be out of action until September.

Fran had been suffering pain in his right hip and leg. A pair of doctors at Worcester County (Mass.) Orthopedics diagnosed the injury it was announced May 27th.  The fracture is located in the L-5, (Lumbar or low back), area of Fran’s spine. “It’s probably wear and tear,” Quinn said of the cause, “from years of hitting balls.” His application for a medical extension has been approved, and he plans on rehabbing on the Nationwide Tour this fall. “I’m not looking at this as a negative at all. … I had an injury, and this is something that needs rest. There’s nothing more you can do.”

Having intimate knowledge of such an injury I can literally ‘feel Fran’s pain’.

My original injury which lead to my spine issues which started in 1976 after a fall during a golf tournament took no less than 4 weeks and several doctors to diagnose an exploded or ruptured disc.

Finding a stress fracture anywhere is tough.  Finding one in the lower back, however, is literally like looking for a needle in a haystack. Fan is lucky they found it before any further damage occurred.

Rest and staying away from a full golf swing for awhile should take care of Fran’s problems.

We look forward to his return in September.  Stay tuned.
