Making a hole in one in golf is very difficult to say the least. Lets face it hitting a golf ball over any distance and holing it out is no easy task. Just ask anyone who plays golf and many will tell you that not only have they never had a hole but also have never played with someone that has made one. So what are the odds of making an albatross or a double eagle, they stand at 1,000,000 to 1.
While Michael Harris may not have been thinking hole in one on the par 4 10th hole at Acushnet River Valley on July 30th that is fact what happened. In an unusual format called a “ Death Roulette Scramble” Michael holed it out on the first hole on the back nine a par 4 from 253 yards away from the forward tee.
You may ask why Mike was playing from the forward tees. The format of the Mini-Tournament he was playing in,” Death Roulette Scramble, allowed each player in the foursome to hit one drive from the Forward (Red) Tees aptly named, “The Power Drive”. Mike’s 253 Yard Power Drive hole in one, was witnessed by the 3 other players in his group. Andy Loconto 52 from Hyde Park, Bill Jancsunski 61 from Norton, and Marc Siciliano 48, from Stoughton. The Ace was the first ever for Michael a recreational golfer of many years, without affiliation to a club, or a formal Handicap.
Making a hole in one is a great feat but an albatross is almost never accomplished in the game of golf. Great shot and congratulations from all of us at New England Golf Monthly.
