Tom RyanThe Burke Fund is pleased to announce that on May 29, 2012 the John P. Burke Award will be presented to Tom Ryan, formerChairman, President & Chief Executive Officer of CVS Caremark Corporation, at a banquet celebrating the Burke Fund’s 65th Anniversary.   He will be the third recipient of this award, joining Brad Faxon, PGA Tour Player and Reverend Joseph L. Lennon, nationally renowned educator from Providence College and long time supporter of the Burke Fund.

The John P. Burke Award recognizes an individual or organization that has reached extraordinary levels of achievement while helping others through golf.  The recipient has demonstrated a commitment to the game’s tradition of charitable support.

Recently retired from CVS Caremark after 36 years, Tom Ryan rose in the ranks from an in-store pharmacist to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.  His vision led to the creation of the CVS Caremark Charity Classic, recognized nationally for its extensive support of numerous charities throughout New England.  Since 1999, the CVS Charity Classic has raised over $14 million to distribute to hundreds of organizations.  Tom Ryan truly exhibits the theme of the Burke Award of “golf generated charity to assist others”.
