I’m sure we’ve all had our moments on the course where the strokes on a particular hole start to pile up. Most of us in a casual round of golf would just pick up, but during Thursday’s opening round at the Valero Texas Open Kevin Na didn’t have that option. Na carded a 16 on the par 4 9th hole, one of the highest scores ever recorded on a single hole on the PGA Tour. He took it in stride, smiling and laughing with his caddie a little bit after he finally got out of the woods. “How are we going to add them up?” he asked his caddie. Luckily the Golf Channel had video of it all to help that cause. Amazingly Na played the rest of his round at -3, a feat in and of itself, being able to put the disaster behind him, but still finished with a cool 80.
Side story: I once took an 11 on the first hole (a par 4) of a college tournament, with my girlfriend watching me play golf for the first time. Not a very good first impression.
