LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Scott Hawley of Shrewsbury, Mass., won his second straight Fuzion-Minor League Golf Tour event Tuesday, scoring 66-62—128 on the South course at Fountains Country Club.
Hawley, 33, made three birdies on each nine the first day; two eagles, seven birdies and a bogey the second. He equaled the all-time MLGT scoring record for a 36-hole tournament set by Matt Abbott on Oct. 18-19, 2007, at Ocean Breeze Golf Club in Boca Raton.
It was Hawley’s ninth MLGT victory, his fifth this year and second in less than a week. He also won last Friday (April 15) at the Links at Madison Green in Royal Palm Beach. He has earned $2,800 in the past five days and has a career total of $23,113 since playing in his first MLGT event May 1, 2006.
Justin Peters of Stuart was second here with 64-66—130 on two eagles, 13 birdies and three bogeys, earning $1,250. He ranks second in career titles with 28 since the MLGT began in August, 2004.
There were 40 starters and a purse of $10,533 for the MLGT’s 42nd tournament of the year. An 18-hole event is scheduled Thursday on the Haig course at PGA National. For information and entry, go to www.minorleaguegolf.com.
