Rickie Fowler and the Travelers Championship

Posted in What's News by on June 22nd, 2010

The Travelers Championship returns to TPC River Highlands and brings a stellar field of major champions and rising stars. Kenny Perry looks to defend his title over past winners Stewart Cink and Brad Faxon, while young stars Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler give chase.

The tournament forecast calls for scattered storms throughout the tournament, so perhaps shades of the Memorial a few weeks back where Fowler pushed through to a runner-up finish.

After Fowler’s Tuesday practice round he said the course was “playing soft,” even before the rain came through. The 6800 yard layout is a tight, demanding test of accuracy and distance control. Expect low numbers early with softer conditions expected throughout the tournament.

The Travelers is Fowler’s first event since his near miss at the Memorial, he spoke about that experience and how much more relaxed he was compared to the Waste Management Phoenix Open earlier this year.

Pay attention to the 15th this week. The 296 yard drivable par four is the Kodak Challenge hole for the week. Fowler, the current leader through 12 holes, gave a little insight into his strategy for the week “you won’t see me lay up once.”
