RIGCSA Presents 2010 Distinguished Service Award

The Rhode Island Golf Course Superintendents Association (RIGCSA) presented their 2010 Distinguished Service Award to Paul Barratt, CGCS at a recent meeting. The Distinguished Service Award is awarded to a member of the RIGCSA to show recognition for contributions made to the RIGCSA and the game of golf. 

Paul graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Stockbridge in 1968 and has worked in the industry for many years as asuperintendent. He became the superintendent of the 

Titleist Practice Facility in Fairhaven, Massachusetts and enhanced the facility each and every year. After twenty years with Titleist, Paul retired in 2009. 

Paul became a member of the RIGCSA in 1994 and then decided to join the Board of Directors where he worked his way up to the position of President in 2005. Paul was president of the RIGCSA during its 75th Anniversary in which he helped oversee and organize a very unique anniversary celebration with a golf tournament held at Sakonnet Golf Club. This tournament involved the use of gutter percher balls and hickory shafted clubs not to mention many members dressed from the period in knickers and argyle sweaters. He also helped to organize a committee to follow up his tenure with a history book of the association and all its accomplishments.
