New England golfers, it’s finally time for you to re-grip your clubs, swap out last year’s nubby spikes, and get ready to lose a bag full of golf balls in the mud. With New England courses opening for play and the mercury expected to hit 60 Thursday, it’s golf season, baby!
South of Boston, that is. Courses north and west of the city will have to wait for the rain and warm weather to melt the mounds of crusted-over snow that lingers on fairways and greens.
Here’s a smattering of New England courses that are open or will be soon:
- Newport National Golf Club (Middletown, R.I.) — All 18 holes open; $45 through March 24; walking only
- Maplegate Country Club (Bellingham, Mass.) — All 18 holes open; call for tee times (508-966-4040)
- Cape Cod CC (North Falmouth, Mass.) — All 18 open; call (508-563-9842) or click here for tee times
- Sassamon Trace Golf Course (Natick, Mass.) — All nine holes on executive course open
- William J. Devine GC at Franklin Park (Dorchester, Mass.) — “Winter Nine” to open on March 17 (call ahead); Franklin Park and George Wright GC to open fully on March 25
- Willow Brook GC (South Windsor, Conn.) – Driving range to open March 18; 18-hole par-60 course to open March 25
