Team Carlton Fisk/William McGirt wins Red Sox Legends & Friends Pro-Am at TPC Boston

NORTON, MASS. (August 30, 2011) – The team led by Baseball Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk and PGA TOUR player William McGirt captured winning honors in Tuesday’s eighth-annual Red Sox Legends & Friends Pro-Am at TPC Boston.

Fisk, McGirt and amateurs Russ Perlich, Joe Monahan and Al Priem combined to shoot an 18-under-par 53 and secure a one-shot victory in the low-net, best-ball tournament that annually kicks off the week at the Deutsche Bank Championship in cooperation with EMC.

Tuesday’s Pro-Am featured 95 players, with each of the 19 fivesomes headlined by a PGA TOUR pro and a sporting dignitary. New England sporting celebrities included Red Sox legends Fisk, Jim Rice, Dennis Eckersley, Dwight Evans, Fred Lynn, Luis TiantBob Montgomery,Rick MillerJim LonborgBob Stanley, Rico Petrocelli and Sam Horn, Boston Bruins players Shawn Thornton, David Krejci, Daniel Paille, Ray Bourque (retired), 1980 USA Hockey Olympic gold medalist Mike Eruzione, retired New England Patriots standout Andre Tippett and Fenway Sports Management’s Frank Huckabone.

Jim Rice, Heidi Watney, Red Sox scholar kidsTuesday’s Red Sox Legends & Friends Pro-Am was preceded by a draw party Monday night at Fenway Park that also included a “Chipping in for the Red Sox Foundation” event. Rice and five lucky raffle winners chipped balls from home plate to three prize targets in the outfield. The event generated a donation of more than $63,000 for the Red Sox Foundation.

Smith & Wollensky, the preferred steakhouse of the Deutsche Bank Championship, provided gifts to all participants in Tuesday’s pro-am. The steakhouse is soon opening a 10,000-square-foot second Boston location on the waterfront between the Rose Kennedy Greenway and BostonHarbor.
