Tee times pushed back as fog delays start of 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits

August 12 – With thick fog blanketing the area , PGA officials pushed back the start of the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
Six players, including New England golfer Tim Petrovic, were scheduled to tee off from the first and 10th tees at 8 a.m. ET, but had yet to begin by 9 a.m.
Woods v. Yang, part deux. Tiger Woods, who has won the PGA Championship four times but is winless so far this year, was scheduled to tee off the 10th at 9:20 a.m. with defending champ Y.E. Yang and Vijay Singh. Yang shocked Woods in last year’s tilt by handing him his first loss ever after leading a tourney through 54 holes. Singh won the PGA Championship in 2004.
In another marquee grouping, 2010 Masters champ Phil Mickelson was to start from the first tee with this year’s U.S. Open winner Graeme McDowell and British Open titleholder Louis Oosthuizen.
Other groupings of interest included former PGA champs Padraig Harrington, Davis Love III, and John Daly at 9 a.m. Steve Stricker, the hometown boy and world’s fourth-ranked golfer, was set to tee it up at 2:15 p.m. with Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy.

TV schedule. If the fog lasts long enough, you may catch some of Woods’ round on TV, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and to run as follows:

  • Thursday and Friday — 1 p.m-8 p.m. (TNT)
  • Saturday — 11 a.m.-2 p.m. (TNT)
  • Saturday — 2 p.m.-7 p.m. (CBS)
  • Sunday — 11 a.m.-2 p.m. (TNT)
  • Sunday — 2 p.m.-7 p.m. (CBS)

Sure hope the action on the course is as exciting as the buildup for the tourney. Read how U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin and Golf Channel reporter Jim Gray went nose-to-nose Wednesday in a hissing, name-calling smackdown outside the media center.
