Tiger Woods, Elin Nordegren finalize divorce

August 23 — In what should come as no surprise, Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren have officially called it quits. Each was in Bay County Circuit Court in Panama City, Fla., Monday to execute their divorce agreement, according to People Magazine.
Wish the very best. “We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future,” the couple said in a joint statement posted on Woods’ website. “While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us.”
The statement continued: “Once we came to the decision that our marriage was at an end, the primary focus of our amicable discussions has been to ensure their future well-being. The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them as we adjust to a new family situation, which is why our privacy must be a principal concern.”
Joint custody. While reports have speculated that Nordegren could receive up to $600 million in the divorce settlement, custody of the couple’s two children, three-year-old Sam Alexis and Charlie Axel, who is one, appeared to be the primary concern for each parent, according to People’s sources. Woods and Nordegren will share custory of their children, according to reports.
The divorce resulted, of course, from Woods’ admission of infidelities after his one-man car crash last November. While on a self-imposed hiatus from professional golf, Woods reportedly sought help for undisclosed issues in a facility known for sex rehab.
Official court records of the divorce agreement were rather dry, although Brooks noted that the proceeding included the Uniform Relocation of Children Act. The citation usually means that at least one parent will move out of state and live a substantial distance away from the other.
Woods will play in this week’s first event of the FedEx Cup playoff series at The Barclays. He needs to play well enough to make the cut and finish no lower than about 58th to make it to the second round at the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston (Norton, Mass.) over Labor Day weekend.
