Tiger Woods, Uchitel, Nordegren, and Tom Brady: Six degrees of separation

Posted in What's News by on July 18th, 2011

With Forbes reporting that Tiger Woods’ bank accounts were bottoming out, along came ex-lover Rachel Uchitel to fatten the ailing golfer’s wallet. Or so said TMZ, which Monday claimed that Uchitel had returned $1 million in hush money to Woods because she feared she had violated her confidentiality agreement.

The deal, which Uchitel’s former lawyer, Gloria Allred, reportedly negotiated for her (and about which you may read more at TMZ if you have the stomach for it), prohibited Uchitel from discussing Woods. Uchitel, whom the National Enquirer identified in November 2009 as the first in what would become an almost endless list of Woods’ alleged mistresses, feared Tiger would sue her for breaking the pact after she spoke with TMZ and appeared on “Celebrity Rehab” to chat about what TMZ called her “addiction to love.”

Amid all the drama about Uchitel reportedly firing Allred for conspiring with Woods’ attorney and Allred threatening a defamation lawsuit against her erstwhile client, Woods’ financial woes keep piling up.

First, there was the Forbes story, which detailed the red ink in Tiger’s financial statements due to lost endorsement deals, a $100 million divorce settlement, a $54.5 million mortgage on his new bachelor pad, and a monetary penalty that Nike reportedly meted out for its star pitchman’s off-course activities.

The Forbes accounting mentioned that Woods would receive a mere pittance — some $4 million — for shilling a heat rub in Japan and reminded the world’s 20th-ranked golfer that he had not cashed a check for winning an actual tournament since 2009. When Forbes did the ciphering, it appeared that Woods had almost $160 million in recent debts, with very little coming in to cover the nut. The publication noted that it was unclear if Woods had paid off any of his debts and that his agent Mark Steinberg vehemently denied that his client had money problems.

Then came a real estate expert’s appraisal from afar that estimated Woods paid some $451,000 a month ($5.4 million per year) in upkeep costs on his Jupiter, Fla., McMansion. Jeff Lichstenstien also offered his opinion that, should Woods seek to offload his new home, the “Northern European” architecture that was “not in keeping” with other Jupiter Island homes, would likely require “a Scandinavian type of buyer.”

Speaking of Scandinavians, and in the “small world” and decidedly icky department, Uchitel apparently dated Jamie Dingman, the billionaire’s son whom Woods’ ex-wife Elin Nordegren is now reportedly keeping company with, according to the National Ledger.

If that’s not enough incestuousness for you, the Boston Globe reported Monday that there was a far-flung New England tie to Dingman as well. It appeared that Nordegren’s new fella used to trip the light fantastic with Bridget Moynihan, New England Patriots’ QB Tom Brady’s ex and mother of his first child.
