Tim Petrovic may be only the 229th golfer in the world, but the New England native has the sharpest wedges on tour. And by sharpest, we mean the coolest — or, in language Boston golfers can relate to: Petro’s 60-degree Callaway RAZR X short irons are wikkid pissah!
As Golf.com’s David Dusek tweeted Monday, “I would not want to be the person to handle the paintfill job on Tim Petrovic’s…wedges.”
The 44-year-old from Northampton, Mass., will take his wedges and the rest of his golf bag to TPC Sawgrass for this week’s Players Championship. Depending on the strength and direction of the wind, he may need only an abbreviated iron to reach the short but dangerous par-3 17th hole.
The famous putting surface is only some 137 yards from the tee, but water surrounding the island can cause even the most confident player to take a few extra gulps of oxygen before swatting his shot.
“It’s a very daunting shot,” Brandt Snedeker, winner of the 2011 Heritage tourney told PGATour.com. “It looks easy on Tuesday and Wednesday, but it’s hard on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There’s no way to fake it in there.”
Beginning Thursday, Petrovic will tee it up at the Players with fellow University of Hartford alum Jerry Kelly, Vermont’s own Keegan Bradley, and, of course, Tiger Woods and the rest of the star-studded field.
