Mashpee, Mass. (September 28, 2011) –  Willowbend Country Club, one of the country’s premier private golf courses, announced the appointment of Rick Johnson as the club’s new Head Golf Professional.  In his role, Johnson will oversee the daily golf operations at the club, including tournaments, staffing, merchandise and instruction.

Johnson is a seasoned professional in the golf industry with over four decades of experience.  He comes to Willowbend from The Hyannisport Club, where he served as the Head Golf Professional for thirty-one years.  Prior to joining The Hyannisport Club in 1980, Johnson held Assistant Professional posts at Pinebrook Country Club in Weston, Framingham Country Club and the Weston Golf Club.  His working winters in Florida through the mid seventies and early eighties were at The Yacht and Country Club in Stuart, Florida, and Frenchman’s Creek Country Club in Juno Beach.

Johnson has served every aspect of the Cape Cod Chapter of the New England PGA from President to Tournament Chairman to Treasurer over the years.  He was also a term Vice President representing the Cape Cod Chapter on the Board of the New England PGA.  In 1995 he was presented with the New England PGA’s award for Private Club Merchandiser of the Year and in 2007 was selected as New England PGA’s Golf Professional of the Year.

Johnson was also a seven-year member of the Town of Barnstable’s Advisory Golf Committee, 1985-1992, which was instrumental in the planning and development of the Old Barnstable Fairgrounds Golf Course.

“Rick brings tremendous experience and knowledge of the industry, particularly in private country club settings,” said Willowbend Country Club Executive Vice President David Wood.  “He’s been a key fixture on the Cape Cod and New England golf scene for forty years and will be a terrific asset to our team at Willowbend.”

Johnson and his wife, Ellye, reside in West Barnstable and have two children.
